Still want children? And if the divorce rate is so high, why do we bother? I liked the Husband Hunters - not so much the topic, but the writing style and wit. The Defiant Wallflower was a more traditional historical romance style and content whereby it all ends happily. Overall the style of the Hunters is more modern and would appeal to a chick lit audience, the Wallflower not so much. So a 4 star for the Hunters and 3 star for the Wallflower which was really a very light read. Nov 23, Adite rated it really liked it Shelves: chick-lit. Daniela, a construction engineer who has plenty of men friends is a total disaster when it comes to sustaining a romantic relationship, and Annabel, a model turned successful entrepreneur is still recovering from her breakup with an egoistic control freak..
So, the three friends decide to change tack and hatch a plan: to use their considerable professional skills to find husbands for themselves. After all, with their biological clocks ticking and a 'man drought' situation, "you don't want to leave it to chance and romance"! I enjoyed this book. Some of the situations are laugh out loud funny and the characters are well sketched. Even the secondary characters -- the potential husbands -- get quite a bit of play in the story. On the flip side, there is too much point-of-view detail from each of the three heroines which makes the story drag in parts.
I loved Annabel's character and her habit of associating every potential husband with a paperback romance complete with a cover and title for their very own love story. And even though I could empathise with Clementine's angst I thought it took her overly long to get over her cheating boyfriend Jason.
There is a bit of intrigue about who they will eventually fall for -- yes, they do find their own happy-ever-after endings -- and the journey of how they get there makes for an entertaining read. The book is written in alternating view points between the three girls, and really deals with some of the dating situations you are likely to encounter. Jul 18, Emily rated it liked it Shelves: adult-fiction. A pretty basic romance, we all know how it is going to end. And the writing could have been tighter, some of the supporting characters seemed unnecessary and a few even got lost in the shuffle. All that said, it was enjoyable enough to read while on vacation. His advice was that we should stop waiting for prince charming to sweep you off your feet and think about what is really important.
My favourite thing about Husband Hunters is that even though the friends discover that life has a way of interfering with the very best laid plans, the one thing that they can always rely on is each other. When I read Husband Hunters, I wished the characters where my friends. In fact, in many cases they are.
Feb 08, Nicole Haddow rated it it was amazing. Such a beautifully written debut from Genevieve Gannon. A cleverly executed look at the lives of three independent something women navigating the dating game. The Austen allegory becomes more apt next month, when Bride and Prejudice , a new film by Gurinder Chadha, the director of Bend It Like Beckham , transplants the 18th-century tale to modern-day Bombay. The film is in an all-singing, all-dancing Bollywood epic, but it faithfully adheres to the plot: a lower middle-class family tries to marry its daughters to men of….
